Project Description

The proposed project will enhance Mauritania’s core capacity to implement MEAs and by extension SDGs. The added value of the proposed GEF support is its ability to provide a common platform for the management of environmental information and coordination of MEA implementation, thereby supporting the achievement of global environmental benefits.

The project will strengthen a coordinated environmental knowledge and information management system and enhance institutional and technical capacities to mainstream, develop, and utilize policies for effective implementation of the Rio Conventions, other MEAs and relevant SDGs.

The project is in line with the comparative advantage of UN Environment and its Programme of Work, particularly sub-programme 7 on “Environment Under Review”. The project will build upon existing national and global information systems and platforms such as UNEP Live.

Estimated duration of project:

March 2018- February 2021 (36 months)

Estimated cost of the project :

GEF Grant:              950,000

Co-finance:              350,000
